So our adventure to the Cayman's began with the biggest display of national level paranoia we have ever witnessed. We arrived the required 3 hours in advance to the airport (new regulation when flying to the states) at 3:30 a.m, then we had to check ALL of our baggage, including our carry-on pieces (new regulation). Upon entering the secure area we put our stuff through the x-ray machines and then went through the metal detector. All of our belongings were then intensely scrutinized. They looked through my wallet, looked through the change, checked every pocket of my coat and inside my shoes. Finally, we got to the main event: the pat-down. These aren't like the TV police pat-downs, these are full blown, 5 minutes each, every crevice of your body pat-downs. If I were a guy I wouldn't bother paying for a lap dance, I'd just buy a ticket to the states.
An hour prior to our arrival in Denver a flight attendant took away all of our possessions, including coats and we weren't allowed to go to the washroom. Our flight to Miami was much the same. What was really interesting was how CNN was playing in every airport lounge (except the Canadian one) and it was all related to the Dec 25th terrorism plot. One headline even encouraged citizens to cut their vacations short and to not fly, while others mentioned how the states were under attack again and air travel wasn't safe...
Anyways, we arrived safely and contrary to America's opinion, now is probably the best time to fly. However, thanks to United's no carry on baggage we have not brushed our teeth in nearly 48 hours and are stuck in the 28 degree weather with no shorts, sandals and bathing suits because they managed to not only lose our carry-on bags, but also two of our suitcases. Oh well, we have lots of hangars and a suit...
